When the Jaw Blocks Healing: FDOJ and Silent Inflammation in Lyme Disease

Jaw X-ray - FDOJ and silent inflammation as healing obstacles

There is a whole person attached to every tooth. This sounds dramatic — but it is medical reality. In my years of practice, I have repeatedly seen how dead teeth and silent jaw necroses can completely block an otherwise correct Lyme disease therapy.

What is FDOJ?

FDOJ stands for “Fatty Degenerative Osteonecrosis of the Jawbone” — chronic, poorly healing bone areas that typically form where teeth have been extracted or root-treated. The insidious part: these foci often cause no local pain and are frequently invisible on conventional X-rays. Yet they continuously release pro-inflammatory cytokines — particularly RANTES (CCL5) — into the bloodstream, chronically occupying the immune system and preventing it from effectively fighting pathogens like Borrelia.

Diagnosis & Treatment

3D DVT (Digital Volume Tomography)

The only imaging method that reliably shows FDOJ foci in three dimensions. 2D X-rays almost never reveal these lesions.

Surgical Jaw Remediation

The necrotic bone is carefully debrided until fresh, blood-filled tissue appears, stimulating natural bone healing. Enhanced with ozone therapy, PRF inserts, and supportive detoxification.

Dr. Kufahl's Conclusion

Holistic Lyme disease therapy must include the oral cavity. FDOJ foci and devitalized teeth can make the decisive difference between therapeutic success and permanent treatment resistance. Anyone who does not recover despite correct antibiotic therapy should consult an experienced biological dentist and have the jaw thoroughly examined.
